When giants strode the world stage

Last week, I wrote a post combining two of my great loves – music and being grumpy. At the end, I promised that I would try to be less grumpy this week.

Well, guess what. I’m breaking my promise. If anything, I think I’m going to be even more grumpy this week (hooray!). But I am going to continue on the same theme, about how I’m finding it hard to be excited by new music.

What once inspired now seems so ordinary to me

Over the course of maintaining this blog, I reckon there are two big themes that come through. That is beyond the obvious one, which is me rabbiting on about my writing.

Theme one is my love of music, and how it influences what I write.

Theme two is that an awful lot of the time I’m a grumpy old sod.

Well, today it brings me no end of joy to find a way to combine these themes. I’m going to write a grumpy old post about music.

My brain is being stretched in too many directions

Way back in the seventies (yes I’m old enough to remember the seventies) there was an advert on telly for a particular chocolate bar. I can’t remember what the name of the chocolate was (even Google doesn’t seem to know). I just remembered that it was stretchy. Really stretchy. You’d put it in your mouth and you couldn’t just bite a block off. Instead, you’d stretch it and stretch it and stretch it.

Trying to find a writing routine while working from home

I’ve mentioned in previous posts about how during this pandemic I’ve been able to transition to working from home.

I suppose that makes me one of the lucky ones. I empathise with those unable to work from home, who are forced to take the risks of continuing to engage in public. And also with those who have not been able to retain their employment. But for now, I’m doing my best to keep the economy moving while maintaining the health and safety of the community.

Who needs jigsaws? I’ve got other puzzles to solve

In this time of lockdown, one of the interesting things to note is what sorts of activities have become popular and what sorts of products are getting increased sales. And as far as I can tell, from both first and second hand evidence, one of these is jigsaw puzzles.

The second hand evidence I’m basing this presumption on is media reports. I’ve seen a number of newspaper and television stories detailing the rising appeal and consequential sales boost of these puzzles.
