Getting onto the library shelf

483jg-libraryI’m not usually a big one for attracting attention to myself. I’m not the type to say ‘Look at me, look at me.’ I rarely even post pictures of myself on this blog (or anywhere else for that matter).

But every so often, something happens and I feel like I can’t restrain myself. I have to put myself out there. Tell the world all about it. And that’s exactly what happened last week.

Yes, you are seeing things correctly. That is me (in all my wondrous glory) standing in a library with my books on the shelves. And no, I didn’t cheat. I didn’t go in there with copies of my books and stick them on the shelf. Those are proper library books, with genuine laminated covers and real-life library stickers. Although I do have to say I did intervene a little. The books were kind of buried down the back so I had to pull them out and stick them in prime viewing position – a task I may repeat more than once over the coming weeks.

It seems like a pretty big thing to have my books available in a local library. It feels like one of the key milestones for any author to achieve. When I was a little kid, I loved to go to the library and discover new books. Now, kids of today can do the same thing and discover my books.

Of course, at the moment it’s just the one library – a local one, not far from where I live. But I have ambitions. I’ve reached out to a bunch of other libraries in the area and am hoping that some of them may also order copies – though I’m not sure I’ll feel the urge to photograph myself standing in each one. And in the new year, I’m planning on casting my net wider, marketing to libraries across the state and even across the country. Just need to figure out how.

In the meantime, I’m happy to bask in this rather tiny blaze of glory. Now it’s up to you, reading public of Australia. Borrow to your hearts content.

This is great to see, and well-deserved. Keep it going. BELLA AND THE BLUE GENIE in every library and store in Australia. MADDIE’S MONSTERS in the hearts and minds of Aussie kids. THOMAS AND THE TIGER-TURTLE #1 in the entire world!

Whew… got a little excited there. 🙂
